ADAM HINSHELWOOD admitted that his York City side ‘thoroughly deserved the three points’ after a crucial 2-0 victory over Woking.

In front of a record-breaking crowd at the LNER Community Stadium, second-half strikes from Billy Chadwick and Dipo Akinyemi saw York secure an important three points in the Vanarama National League to move further adrift of the relegation zone.

With one match remaining of the season, Hinshelwood affirmed that their job was not done until they are mathematically safe, and took the time to credit the supporters for an electric atmosphere.

“I thought that in the first half we had some really good chances, and we couldn’t quite go ahead in the game,” Hinshelwood admitted.

“It made it a bit nervy, but the players response in the second-half was excellent and we thoroughly deserved the three points today.

“I’ll be perfectly honest, I was a bit critical of the front three at half-time.

“I thought they needed to produce more, they were a little bit reactive and weren’t reading the situations well enough.

"The ball was coming back too often and they responded perfectly, Dipo in particular.

“I put a lot of pressure on him at half-time, I told him that these boys know that you can be our match winner, and he’s gone and done that with an unbelievable finish.

“We spoke about it before and he certainly can be [the main man]. He’s proved it since I’ve come in, there are moments in games when he has been unplayable and we need to get it out of him more.

“A few of the players felt it [the pressure] a little bit, there was a lot of pressure in today’s game with a big crowd to play in front of.

“It was important after that 20 minutes that we settled down and I thought that we did that well, fair play to the players because it’s not easy in quite windy conditions.

“I thought that they dealt with it really well and took it into their game, it was important after that first period that we came in at 0-0 and got some momentum from that.

“We need to finish the season well, we need some momentum going into next season and I felt that we generated that towards the end here.

“You saw the size of the crowd today, hopefully we can get that back and get off to a good start for next season.

“The job is definitely not done for this season, we want to finish the season well, have a good training week and take that into Saturday.”

Hinshelwood also took the time to praise the supporters for their ‘amazing’ atmosphere in a record-breaking attendance for City at the LNER Community Stadium.

“The supporters were amazing today, this is like I said what we want as the norm. Big crowds where they can really get the team behind us, they have done that today," The City boss enthused.

“I took a lot of stick when I first came in and the results weren’t good, the performances weren’t good enough for the stature of this club, and I knew that.

“I’m just pleased that I’ve managed in the last six games to give a truer reflection of my work and what the players can do as well.”

Hinshelwood will also be keeping a close eye on Boreham Wood’s later kick-off with Aldershot Town in the National League, but was pleased that York’s destiny is now within their own control.

“I played for the Shots so I will definitely be supporting them now!

“It’s completely in our hands now, we’re playing with a lot of form and a lot of momentum.

“I know Whingy [Andy Whing, Solihull Moors manager] down at Solihull and he will know that he’s got a good team coming to his patch next week.”
