YORK City's Quevin Castro has joined Vanarama National League North strugglers King's Lynn Town on an initial one-month loan.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined the Minstermen in early July upon the expiration of his contract with Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion, but has recently found game time limited under Neal Ardley.

Castro, who can play either on the left wing or as an attacking midfielder, arrived at the LNER Community Stadium off the back of impressive loan spells with Notts County and Gateshead in the Vanarama National League last term, in which he scored four goals in 15 appearances.

One of those will be have been familiar to City fans, a stunning free-kick in the Magpies' 3-1 triumph in North Yorkshire in September 2022 that was among the nominees for the National League's Goal of the Season.

The Portuguese playmaker has made 12 appearances for the Minstermen this season, scoring his only goal in their 2-2 home draw with Boreham Wood in September.

However, after enjoying a run of appearances at the beginning of the season, he has played just 50 minutes in the National League since the middle of September, and has not been included in a matchday squad since York's 2-0 victory at AFC Fylde in mid-November.

On his signing, King's Lynn manager Adam Lakeland said: “Castro is a player with great physique and presence on a football pitch.

"He is athletic, has a good engine, good technical ability and has a goal in him.

"He offers different attributes and qualities to the other personnel we have in those advanced midfield areas, giving us further options.”

Castro could make his debut for the Linnets, who currently sit 21st, in tomorrow's trip to play-off chasers Hereford.
