YORK City have completed their first signing of Matt Uggla's reign in charge of the club- snapping up midfielder Quevin Castro.

Castro will join the club on a permanent deal upon the expiry of his contract at West Bromwich Albion on July 1.

The 21-year-old is a product of the West Bromwich Albion academy, and enjoyed loan spells in the Vanarama National League last season with both Notts County and Gateshead, making a combined 15 appearances and scoring four goals.

One of those goals will be a memorable one to York supporters, after his incredible free-kick against City in late September's 3-1 defeat to Notts County, which was also nominated for the National League goal of the season accolade.

He also made two appearances in his time with the Baggies, and also had a brief loan spell with Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One at the beginning of 2022.

Castro, who tends to play as a creative midfielder, has become the Minstermen's third Summer signing, after deals were also struck with David Stockdale and Cedric Main earlier in the month.
