A NORTH Yorkshire man who made his London Marathon comeback after recovering from a heart attack is already planning to run next year’s race.

Andy Leak, from Scarborough, completed Sunday’s marathon in 6hrs 31mins 37secs and has so far raised more than £600 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The 47-year-old hopes the money will still keep trickling in and says it is not too late to support him.

He said: “I finished in a time of 6.31.37 which was my slowest time yet.

“I was a bit upset and disappointed with that, but given what I have come from, I did well to finish, and it has given me something to work on for 2017, as I will apply again.

“It was another fantastic experience, and thankfully the weather forecasters were wrong with the snow.

“I got round without incident, although did have a couple of bad periods where I thought I might have bitten off more than I could chew, but this was due to my legs seizing up.

“I soon got through this with several good doses of sugar.

“I had a race strategy which I stuck too which was different from previous years and it did work.

“I didn't want to push this time, I simply wanted to finish.

“I have a year now to plan for 2017, now that I know I can still do it.”
