A NORTH Yorkshire man is making his marathon comeback after recovering from a heart attack.

Andy Leak, from Scarborough, is running the London Marathon on Sunday, which will be his ninth time taking on the 26.2-mile distance.

Having suffered a heart attack in January 2012, the 47-year-old is making his return to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Mr Leak, who is a welcome host at Scarborough Sea life Centre, said: “I decided to support the BHF this year because on the morning of January 3, 2012 I suffered from a heart attack completely out of the blue.

"With no history of heart disease in the family, this came as a major shock.

"I received excellent after care service and the staff at Castle Hill Hospital near Hull, were absolutely outstanding "Not everyone who has a heart attack; lives to tell the tail. To then go on to compete in the London Marathon is a remarkable achievement in itself.

“This will be my ninth marathon. I took part in my first London Marathon on May 10th 1987, when I completed the course in 4hrs 45mins 02 secs. "This still remains my personal best. I went on to complete a further six London Marathons and in 2004 I completed the New York City Marathon.

"I have supported various charities over the years."

To raise money and awareness Mr Leak held a race night, which netted more than £300. To sponsor him, visit www.justgiving.com/leakster69
