ADAM HINSHELWOOD is pleased with the platform he has to build on ahead of the trip to Altrincham on this evening (7.45pm).

The newly-appointed York manager takes charge of his fourth match in charge of City, with the Minstermen still on the hunt for their first win under new stewardship.

However, after picking up a first clean sheet and first point under Hinshelwood in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Kidderminster Harriers, the York boss feels confident that he knows where the club can improve, with the manager happy at the base set out.

“We’ve highlighted where we can improve, it’s a good start base in terms of keeping a clean sheet and now we have definitely got to create more going in the other direction,” Hinshelwood told BBC York.

“In the first two games we were conceding too many and not creating enough, but it’s a good start in keeping the ball out of our net and we’ve shown the lads a couple of elements of our play that we hope will enable us to get into the final third on a few more occasions.

“We’ve shown them that we can still create going the other way, but we still need to be secure offensively.

“It’s about keeping that balance right now. The travelling fans were superb, we want to give them more to cheer in front of goal as I am almost certain that we have to do that.

“All in all the aggression and the determination was definitely there.”

Hinshelwood also discussed his tactical set-up and how his play requires more creativity from the full-backs, with work rate impressing the City boss.

Hinshelwood explained: “With the two and the two that we played, we were quick to pick out on the little change of shape there.

“We’ve got to have our full-backs join in a little bit more, that was one element that we showed if the two central midfielders are playing a little bit deeper as it gives a full license to the full-backs to join in and they can provide our width a little bit more with the two number tens in there as well.

“We’ve shown them elements of the game and I thought that the work rate has been excellent in the first two games, we’re asking a bit different from them and they’re probably not going to create as much when playing a little bit deeper, but we want the full-backs to get on and be creating a little bit more as well.

“We had to address things in the first two games and look at ways that we can get results, to get that first point and clean sheet, it could be a good point. We’ve got to back it up.”
