ADAM Hinshelwood is striving for his first York City victory in tonight’s trip to Altrincham (7.45pm).

Hinshelwood is yet to celebrate his first win as York manager after three matches in charge, so far witnessing two defeats and a 0-0 draw with Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, which was his first point gained as City boss.

Tonight night’s match at Altrincham remains a crucial one for the Minstermen, who now occupy 22nd position in the Vanarama National League on 40 points, with Wealdstone being three points ahead with superior goal difference.

Hinshelwood will take Altrincham’s pitch into consideration, which has suffered damage in recent weeks, ahead of an important match.

“We’re all striving for it. I understand the frustrations of the supporters because they are supporting a really big club,” Hinshelwood told BBC York.

“They do travel in their numbers. We are really grafting to get that first win.

“We’ve got to get the balance right. There were times on Saturday when we could have made a few more passes to get the ball into a better area, to then play it forward into forward areas.

“It’s about us getting the balance right. It [the pitch] doesn’t look brilliant to the naked eye but we’re hoping for a bit of a surprise when we turn up tomorrow. They like to play football as well so it’s simple that we get the balance right.

“They like to play good football and have got players in those forward areas that can hurt you on their day.

“Again, they are a team that we can’t take lightly. We’ve got to focus on the stuff that we can do better and have got to show the same spirit and determination to keep the ball out of the net.

“We’ll sit down with all of the team and go through the opposition, their strengths and their weaknesses.

“We’ll see how we can counteract that with ourselves being able to create chances as well.

“Away from home on Tuesday, we’ve got to go and win games of football.

“That’s how I try and set my teams up. I have done for numerous years now as we’re not just happy to get points, we want to win games. That’s the aim for us at the moment.

“We’ve got to keep believing. It could be a great point for us and could be the catalyst to start us on a little run. That’s the way we’re believing now.

“I thought that the work rate, the determination and the effort was definitely there and we’ve got to apply that to make some more passes and create a little bit more going the other way.”
