YORK City have signed Alex Hunt on loan from Sky Bet League Two side Grimsby Town until the end of the season.

The box-to-box midfielder is the Minstermen's third acquisition this month, following Mariners defender Danny Amos and Leeds United prospect Charlie Allen through the doors at the LNER Community Stadium.

Hunt began his career with his hometown club Sheffield Wednesday, making 17 appearances across all competitions after progressing through the Owls' youth set-up from the age of seven.

Whilst there, he also gained Vanarama National League experience, becoming a fan favourite during a loan spell with Grimsby, which saw him make 18 appearances as across the first half of their promotion-winning 2021-22 season.

Upon his return to South Yorkshire, the 23-year-old signed a new 18-month contract with Wednesday that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2023.

A loan spell with Oldham Athletic quickly followed, with Hunt making 13 appearances for the Latics from January-April 2022.

Following Grimsby Town’s return to the Football League in the summer of 2022, the midfielder made the permanent move to Lincolnshire for an undisclosed fee on deadline day.

He has made over 60 appearances so far during his time at Blundell Park, including 15 this season, however he has not featured for the Mariners since their 6-1 hammering by Walsall on New Year's Day.
