YORK City co-owner Matt Uggla has apologised to fans and players after the short-notice postponement of tonight's Vanarama National League clash with Dorking Wanderers.

Marc White's side were due to visit the LNER Community Stadium this evening, but the match was called off due to a frozen pitch shortly before 1:30pm this afternoon.

Dorking slammed the decision on X (formerly Twitter), saying: "Disappointingly tonight’s fixture at York City has just been called off with players and supporters already either in York or en route."

And White, who serves as both the club's chairman and first-team manager, did also not mince his words, labelling the short-notice postponement "shambles.com".

Uggla apologised to those who were already on their way, or had arrived in York ahead of the fixture on social media, branding the lateness of the decision to postpone the match "very unfair."

"Just like to apologise to @DorkingWDRS players and fans who already made their way up," he said on X.

"Seems very unfair to have left it this late to cancel.

"Hope you all get home safe and look forward to seeing you guys later in the year."

With temperatures below freezing, and yesterday's scheduled match between Leeds United U21s and Everton U21s at the Stadium also called off, the postponement is a decision that will likely have come as little surprise, despite no suggestion from City themselves that the game would not go ahead.

It is the second time that the fixture has been postponed, the first owing to the Minstermen's progression to the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup at the beginning of December.

But announcing the decision just over six hours before kick-off has led to frustration amongst City fans and those making the trip up from Surrey - with Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla confirming that they will now offer away fans half-price tickets for the rescheduled fixture as a gesture of goodwill.

"Hope this softens the blow a little bit," Matt Uggla said via X of the gesture.

"Half price to watch the Dipo Davies Chadwick show is value for money."
