YORK City have extended Will Smith's loan deal from Harrogate Town until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Smith, who originally joined the club in September, will remain with the Minstermen until the end of the season after the club extended his deal from Sky Bet League Two outfit Harrogate.

The 25-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions so far this season, having recently established himself in a starting role in recent weeks.

Smith did depart the club briefly in November to return to Harrogate for treatment on an injury, before re-joining York in December on an initial one-month loan deal.

The defender has also registered two assists in his time with City, providing for Lenell John-Lewis in York's 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet United in December before assisting Adam Crookes for his late equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 stalemate against Boreham Wood.

Smith began his career with Barnsley and earned the club's Academy Player of the Year in the 2015/16 season, enjoying a loan spell with Vanarama National League North outfit Darlington too.

Harrogate snapped up Smith from Barnsley, helping to guide the Sulphurites to promotion from the Vanarama National League in the 2019/20 campaign.

Smith also has an Isuzu FA Trophy winners medal in his collection with Harrogate, and has endured a loan spell with Scunthorpe United too.

Smith continues to be available for selection, and could play in York's match with Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday, January 16 (7.45pm).
