YORK City can push on after extending their unbeaten league run to seven matches, according to defender Adam Crookes.

Crookes kept his place in the York starting line-up despite struggling with illness throughout the week, before scoring a stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Chris Bush’s earlier long-ranged strike in City's 1-1 draw with Boreham Wood on Sunday afternoon.

It’s another point on the board that sees City stretch their unbeaten Vanarama National League run to seven matches, with the Minstermen now three points clear of the relegation zone.

“I think it was (a deserved point). I think we worked hard to get the point and pre-game we knew that when coming into it,” Crookes told TNT Sports after the full-time whistle.

“I don’t think (Boreham Wood's lead) was deserved and we weren’t happy, we were playing for a win in difficult conditions.

“By enlarge, we were playing well and I think that in the end it was a deserved point.

“We’ve worked on set-pieces and we knew that the boys had to work hard until the final whistle, anything can happen and luckily it dropped for us.

“We were playing for the win and trying to get in behind but it was coming back to us, it wasn’t falling for us and it was more about trying to get that quality into the strikers and getting them the ball to give them a base to work off of.”

Crookes has also backed City to push on in the second-half of the season after finding form in recent weeks, and believes that new signing Billy Chadwick could help unlock the club’s potential.

“You can see he’s a good player when he’s on the ball, he’s sharp and something we’ve needed, we’ve needed that creativity and it looks like he could be a good player for us.

“It was tough, but I came through it fine so we’re all good.

“I don’t see why not (York can’t push on), especially if you look at the last few results.

“We’re starting to pick up some points and hopefully we can start to look forwards instead of backwards.”
