FORMER York City winger Nathan Thomas is without a club after departing Marske United by mutual consent.

Thomas departed York in the Summer after one season in North Yorkshire, making 11 appearances for City an injury-stricken season.

The 29-year-old's contract expired in June, but the club and former manager Mikey Morton invited Thomas back for pre-season training, however Thomas opted to turn down the offer and look for opportunities elsewhere.

Thomas since joined Marske United in the Northern Premier League premier division, and made 12 appearances whilst scoring four goals for the Seasiders.

Marske confirmed on social media last night that Thomas had departed the club by mutual consent, with Marske's future currently in the air after being hindered by financial problems.

The club confirmed that they needed to raise £120,000 to stay afloat after gaining promotion last season, with a JustGiving page also being opened to welcome donations.

Manager Graeme Lee, formerly of Hartlepool United and Sheffield Wednesday, said on the situation: "There are a lot of people in this moment of time trying every single thing they can to keep this club going.

"There are so many people who do so many good things for this club and they bring people together from the town.

"It means that much to so many people. It’s a crying shame that we can’t sustain that."

On Thomas' departure, the club said on social media: "Nathan Thomas has left the club by mutual consent. Nathan made 12 appearances for the Seasiders scoring 4 goals.

"We wish him all the best for the future."
