THE Football Supporters' Association shares York City Supporters' Trust's concerns over the short notice rearrangement of the Minstermen's trip to Boreham Wood next month.

Originally scheduled for January 6, City will now travel to Meadow Park on January 7 (2pm), with the match moved for broadcast on TNT Sports.

The fixture is set to be the Minstermen's third broadcast on TNT Sports this season, following their visit to Woking and Yorkshire derby with FC Halifax Town. It will also be the first time that the broadcaster has rescheduled a match to a Sunday.

It's a decision that has been met with controversy, with many supporters already having purchased tickets, transport, and accommodation for the fixture.

This afternoon, the York City Supporters' Trust published an open letter to the Vanarama National League and TNT Sports, slamming both parties for their short notice.

In the letter, the Trust says that rescheduling the fixture has "placed an undue burden on already tight budgets", and has called for supporters to receive free transport or be reimbursed the expenses of travel and accommodation costs.

The National League's assessment of the fixture as "an early Christmas present" for supporters has also hit a nerve, the Supporters' Trust instead describing it as "The Nightmare of Meadow Park."

Now, the FSA has offered its backing, and has also called for the National League, TNT Sports and national rail companies to "do something practical to mitigate the effects of this late decision on the travelling York City support."

In a statement, Malcolm Clarke, Chair of the Football Supporters’ Association, said: "The Football Supporters Association fully supports the concerns of the York City Supporters about the late change of date for this fixture.

"Away fans add greatly to both the atmosphere at games, which benefits the TV product, and the gate income, and their interests should be much higher on the agenda of both the leagues and the TV Companies.

"Many away fans purchase advance rail tickets which are non-refundable and lose that money when the fixture is changed at late notice.

"We have been campaigning for the rail companies to show some flexibility in these circumstances. It is a particular problem for many at this time of year because of the costs of Christmas.

"York to Boreham Wood and back on a Sunday is a difficult ask anyway for fans, even without this additional cost.

"We support the call for the National League, TNT and the rail Companies to do something practical to mitigate the effects of this late decision on the travelling York City support."
