OLLY DYSON is ready to fight for his place in the York City team after a ‘difficult’ start to the season.

Dyson’s game time has been limited after a tricky start to the Vanarama National League season, playing just 64 minutes in York’s last five matches, and failing to register a goal so far.

But last season’s Clubman of the Year is determined to impress manager Neal Ardley and to earn a permanent spot in the City eleven, starting with the Minstermen’s huge Emirates FA Cup second round match with Wigan Athletic this evening.

“It’s been difficult, it’s the first time where I’ve had to learn these sort of things where I’m not getting as much time as I would have wanted,” Dyson admitted.

“But it’s going to happen in my career at some point, I’m putting the work in and hopefully I can get an opportunity to impress the manager and we’ll see what happens.

“Competition is good, there’s going to be times where someone will be playing in your position and that’s when you have to show your true colours. You have to put the work in.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but we’ve got a full week of preparation and getting ready for it, it’s going to be exciting, I’m looking forward to it.

“Hopefully there is a big crowd as well, the fans can get behind us and there will be people watching on the TV as well.

“It will be a big incentive but we’ll have a game plan, we’ll have a way to play and we’ll try to follow it.

“This is my fourth season now, and even in the league below, the fans have been amazing.

“They’re always turning up in their numbers and it’s almost like a 12th man at times, so it is really good.”

Dyson also took time to praise manager Neal Ardley, with the midfielder insisting that City have shown improvement under the boss.

“He’s a great manager, tactically he’s up there with some of the best that I’ve ever managed under. He’s a good gaffer.

“We’ve seen worse things happen, since the gaffer has taken over we have picked up some better results and we’re going into the game with a good string of results under our belt.

“We’ve lost one in five and the lads are full of confidence, so I don’t see why not.

“We’re a good team, on our day we can cause anyone problems, and hopefully we’re on our day on that day and we’ll see what happens.”
