WILL DAVIES admitted that it was a 'good feeling' to make his first York City start and to grab his first goal after starring in the Minstermen's 2-0 victory over Oxford City on Tuesday night.

Neal Ardley handed Davies his first start in a York shirt after completing his transfer from Braintree Town last week, with the striker impressing alongside Dipo Akinyemi against Oxford.

After opening his account for the club in the 17th minute, Davies hopes to kick on now after the club set standards in response to their defeat to Hartlepool United on Saturday.

“It’s a good feeling, the standards from the boys tonight was unbelievable and the work rate," Davies told the club media team.

"We deserved the three points, so a good night all round.

“It’s been good, I’ve obviously only had a few days training and did a few things yesterday, so I think it paid off today.

"The way we set-up, the shape we had and the organisation, you could see that in our performance today.

“It was really good, after Saturday it was a disappointing result and we had to bounce back.

"We did that tonight, everyone worked really hard and we can’t ask for much more.

"We set a standard for the rest of the season and that’s how we’ve got to perform week in, week out, hopefully I can get a few goals with it.

“The games come around quick, hopefully I can keep scoring but I am looking forward to it."

Davies also enjoyed playing alongside Akinyemi and Lenell John-Lewis after completing his first 90 minutes for the club, and believes the trio can compliment on another on the pitch.

“They both work really hard and are both natural goal scorers.

"I think we compliment each other’s game with one going short and one going long, but I enjoyed it so that’s good."
