YORK City will face Chester in the Emirates FA Cup First Round proper, should they beat Needham Market in their Fourth Qualifying Round replay on Tuesday night.

The sides played out a drab goalless draw in front of 1800 fans at the LNER Community Stadium yesterday afternoon, with Needham defending any City attack with ease.

Neal Ardley’s charges came closest to breaking the deadlock, hitting both the post and crossbar, but the visitors were deserved of their draw, having still not conceded in 450 minutes across their three rounds of the competition played thus far.

The Minstermen reached the First Round proper last term, but were knocked out by Sky Bet League One side Shrewsbury Town following a 2-1 defeat at New Meadow. Chester went out in the Fourth Qualifying Round, losing on penalties to Oldham Athletic after forcing a replay with a 1-1 draw at Boundary Park.

Chester are no strangers to playing sides from North Yorkshire in this season's competition, having secured a comeback 3-1 victory against Tadcaster Albion at the SoTrak Stadium last month.

The Vanarama National League North outfit saw off Hartlepool United, managed by former City boss John Askey, in the Fourth Qualifying Round yesterday.

Calum McIntyre's side finished third last season before losing out in the Play-off Semi Final to Brackley Town, but are currently 16th in the table after a mixed start to the new campaign.

York have a strong recent record against the Seals, having won both of the sides' National League North fixtures 1-0 in the 2021-22 season.

Ties will be played on the weekend of November 3-6.
