YORK City manager Neal Ardley credited his players for their recent efforts in a hectic period of Vanarama National League games, after sharing the points in a 2-2 draw with Bromley.

Goals from Dipo Akinyemi and Lenell John-Lewis looked as if it had handed York back-to-back victories, but a 95th minute equaliser from Josh Passley saw Bromley clinch a late point at the LNER Community Stadium.

Despite a frustrating result for the Minstermen, Ardley took time to praise the efforts of his side after a hard-working performance from York.

“I have to give the lads a lot of credit, they are absolutely giving me everything.

"Out there we gave a lot of free-kicks away late on just through sheer tiredness, at the end of the seven games it’s been really tough for the boys.

"They really have worked their socks off for me, it’s been quality at times and we’ve made some mistakes.

"But at least the people that are the fans and the people at the club can see that we are trying.

“It’s football, we scored a 97th minute winner on Tuesday night where we probably didn’t deserve to get three points.

"Today, I thought we did enough to get the three points and we conceded on the last kick.

"It’s football, it’s very frustrating, it’s these mistakes that cost us and I alluded to it before that we average conceding two goals per game.

"If you go through that, you can’t expect to get three points, but it has got to be better in that final third. Again today, we’ve conceded another two.

“I don’t think we’re going to be playing how I want us to play this season.

"I really don’t, there’s glimpses of it but I’m not going to make us open and expansive if we’re not ready for it.

"A manager has to be pragmatic and say okay, we’ve got patterns, we’ve got movement and we’re causing problems, but I’ve got to work the right way to get some of it into the group.

"At the same time, I think the structure of a lot of what we do without the ball is good, we’re harder to open up than we have been.

"But we keep making silly mistakes in our penalty box and concede silly goals."

Ardley also expects his defenders to work harder in search of just a second potential clean sheet of the season, after some poor defensive efforts allowed Bromley to claim a point from today's game.

“It’s a mistake, the guy has come through onto his left foot, the defence has sunk onto the goalkeeper.

"It’s their job to keep themselves up and get that starting position higher. The moment they get those first two things wrong, there’s trouble.

"He beats Will Smith, their guy doesn’t get to it and it’s one that we should be dealing with.

“I thought that until later on in the second half when they started pushing, Bromley offered very little as well.

"When it comes to that final third the defenders have got to do what they are paid for, and at the moment they are not."
