SOLIHULL Moors manager Andy Whing was disappointed his side didn’t go on to defeat York City in a 2-2 draw at the LNER Community Stadium, and was disappointed with the referee’s decision not to award the visitors a penalty in stoppage time.

Whing was pleased with the resilience his side showed to overturn York’s 1-0 lead heading into half-time, and felt it was a good point against a City side that have shown improvements in recent weeks under former Moors boss Neal Ardley.

The Solihull manager was disappointed however to not be able to go on and protect the Moors lead, and felt that the referee turned away a stonewall penalty deep into stoppage time.

“I thought that in the first half on the standards we set, I thought we were poor.” Whing told the Solihull Moors media team.

“I thought we were a little bit flat and especially in the last 15 minutes of that first half, they didn’t really have to do much to go and score a goal really.

“We said that at half-time and said that we didn’t work hard enough to get onto the ball, and we waited for them to have a chance. It was slow and late and there was no real quality in the game.

“We said that to them at half-time and I thought we came out brilliantly in the second half, even from the kick-off we came out and won the ball back.

“We scored really early, a fantastic goal and we took it to them and I thought we were the better team in all of the second half really.

“Unfortunately they scored from a second phase and it’s trickled into the goal from a free-kick, but I thought we kept going and looked dangerous.

“We could’ve had stonewall penalties in every game, but today was a stonewall penalty in the 90th minute with a handball.

“Those decisions aren’t going for us. All in all, I’m really pleased with that performance but I’m disappointed that we have drawn the game and not got three points.

“In the last ten or 11 games, we’ve gone ahead before half-time and have been trying to protect a lead.

“We had to show something different today and we showed resilience, and the reaction to get back into the game in the second I am really, really pleased with.

“We were outstanding in the second half, we looked dangerous and looked like we were going to score every time we went forward.

“Even at 2-2, in the last ten minutes we were the team in the ascendancy looking to win the game.

“We had a couple cleared off of the line, the goalkeeper made saves and their handball.

“I’m really, really pleased with our second-half performance.

“It’s another decent result, I am disappointed that we haven’t won the game.

“But I’ll take a point away from home against a resurgent team."
