NEAL ARDLEY has reflected on York City’s 4-2 defeat to Barnet on Tuesday night, admitting his side have to ‘take that one on the chin’.

An impressive Barnet side produced a second-half performance that dismantled York to claim three points, something Ardley wasn’t too pleased with.

Ardley felt that a lack of communication amongst his backline was the issue, but hopes his side can maintain the buzz that has recently been established in the changing room.

“We have to take that one on the chin, we’ll look at what we can do better.” Ardley admitted.

“They are a good team and at the time you think they’re overrunning us, you watch back the goals and it’s disappointing.

“Even if we defend properly, in some of the cases the lads were trying too hard, it’s not lads being lazy.

“We had two people trying to do the same job, someone trying to fill in for somebody rather than trying to stay on the edge of the box, a little bit of it is communication.

“It is what it is, looking back at them they’re disappointing, but all we can do is go on the training field, do video analysis and make sure the lads are aware of how we want to defend.

“The games are so thick and fast it’s really difficult to reflect for too long.

“I said to the players in the dressing room after that we’ve got a nice feel around us, especially on Tuesday night there was a little bit of a buzz around the place.

“I don’t want to lose that, and if I go in and start ripping into them, we might lose it quickly.

“My take on it is that Barnet, and I spoke to their manager because he stayed in our office for an hour afterwards and I get along with him, they’ve been two-and-a-half years in the making to get this team.

“They’ve had multiple windows to put together a team that reflected him in many ways, so it shows how the process needs to go and they are ahead of us.

“My job is to sort of try my best to have a team that’s more of a match for them.”

Ardley reaffirmed how important patience was, and explained that he wasn’t going to use the riches at his disposal as a quick fix to a rocky start to the Vanarama National League season.

“It does show that patience and time is important in any management, but you’ve got to show improvement and be showing that the job you’re doing is starting to bare fruition.

“There’s no quick fix here, we’re trying to work players in and players out, this isn’t going to be a money tree.

“We’ve made some big signings in the Summer but this isn’t a money tree, it’s a case of one in and one out type.

“The budget has already gone to a level and we don’t want it to go any higher, so we’ll be doing shrewd business to try and improve our team.”
