BARNET manager Dean Brennan felt his side ‘controlled the game’ in the Bees’ 4-2 victory over York City on Tuesday night.

Brennan was pleased with the performance of his players and explained the reasoning behind his outbursts on the touchline, but was frustrated to concede a 90th minute consolation goal from Dipo Akinyemi.

The Barnet boss also offered his thoughts on Nicke Kabamba’s equaliser in the first-half that was ruled out for offside, having watched it back, and claimed that the referee had got the decision wrong.

“I thought we controlled the game, the lads can be proud of it.” Brennan told the Barnet media team.

“To concede in the first five or six minutes was a bit naïve of us, they played it a little bit long and we didn’t have the right set-up defensively.

“There was a little bit of naivety from our midfield, they went down the side of us and it was a good finish from the lad.

“All in all when you look at the game we were dominant, I was a tiny bit frustrated with the goal we conceded late.

“We can’t keep doing that, they haven’t had many attempts on our goal and got two goals.

“For a total dominant performance, we need to get the goal difference better in the division.

“It was a great second half, we asked the players at the half-time could we as a team go out and be the real deal in the second half.

“I thought we were the better team in the first-half, we didn’t go in with the lead and they came up with the answers which was excellent.

“We are a good side, we proved that in the last 12 games and we proved it last year by being fifth in the division.

“We’re a stronger group than what we had last year, we have a greater mentality. People can see me going mad on the side, but I have to be like that.

“We’ve got some naïve players, we’ve got a young squad but they have to do the job I want them to do in their departments.

“I made the subs but in the end, are we getting stronger with those subs? I have to question myself, I have raised the bar.

“We shouldn’t be conceding two goals here tonight, maybe one when they’ve caught us early doors and given us a bit of a sucker punch.

“We controlled the game after conceding that goal and scored four goals, but we shouldn’t be conceding, we should be extending our lead.

“I am really frustrated with that.”

Brennan was also pleased with the performance of winger Idris Kanu, who scored an impressive solo goal against York and was a constant threat down the left-wing.

“In the first half we fed him so much, I didn’t think he penetrated them at all, he put in a couple of decent crosses but there was no real quality.

“I had a bit of a chat with him at half-time, showed him a couple of clips where he could have improved, and then he brought that quality in the second half.

“That’s what we’re asking for, we need output from our attacking players. Idris got a goal, I think he set another one up.

“When we scored in the first-half, I watched it back and it’s not offside.

“It can be frustrating, but when he flashed it across and Nicke scored, it’s nowhere near offside.”
