YORK City assistant manager Neil Cox wants the Minstermen to play their own game against managerless Oldham Athletic on Tuesday, September 19 (7.45pm).

Cox was on the sidelines for York's first victory of the Vanarama National League season on Saturday afternoon, with a comfortable 3-0 win over Southend United.

The City assistant boss is expecting a tough challenge against an unpredictable Oldham outfit, and is believes the Latics will be eager to bounce back after manager David Unsworth was dismissed of his role on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s always a tough place to go, we’ve always found it difficult when we’ve gone there." Cox explained.

"They’re organised and have been a little bit safer, they concede a lot of goals and they’ll get organised.

"They’ll probably make one or two changes as they have a big squad, a bit like us, it is always going to be tough so we need to be on our guard and make sure we do our job properly.

"We will look at them, and look at what we do rather than what they do.

“They’ll get a boost, but that’s what happens in football. How long are you in a job? It’s regular, it’s our job to try and get a win and that’s the main thing.

“Usually you see the bounce effect, but we’re not going to worry about that, the manager will worry about what we have to do.

"It’s about what we do, getting our performance in, and then if you have a good performance the result usually looks after itself.

"You might get a bad decision here with a referee, but it’s about what we do, it’s never easy to go to Oldham.

"It’s about controlling the atmosphere, slowing the pace down and doing it our way.

“I thought that when they made a lot of good signings in the Summer that they would be a team to watch.

"I’ve watched them a couple of times this season but they’ve seemed to struggle, it’s somebody else’s chance now.

"It’s the sacking season, another good manager has lost his job and it gives someone else an opportunity."
