BOREHAM Wood manager Luke Garrard felt it was 'two points dropped' by his side in Neal Ardley's first outing as York City boss.

York were held to a 2-2 draw with Boreham Wood despite leading twice, meaning City are still winless in their first eight matches of the Vanarama National League season.

Garrard was frustarted his side couldn't nick a winner in difficult conditions at the LNER Community Stadium, but felt City could feel the same way, and was nevertheless pleased with his side's performance.

“Do I think it’s two points dropped? Yes I do." Garrard told the club media team.

“They will probably be aggrieved because they had a couple of chances, I thought today we were excellent.

“The negatives, we concede the two goals and we have to score three to win a game away from home. That’s probably about it.

“The positives outweigh the negatives, we need to utilise the squad because we’ve come here and put on a display in 31 degree heat and I thought the boys put in a performance.

“The character to come back from 1-0 down and then straight away to 2-1, then with Angelo (Balanta) worldie to nearly win the game, am I frustrated to have not won? Of course.

“If this was the first game of the season coming away to York, getting a point is a big point.

“It starts an unbeaten run, that’s what we’ve got to look at.

“We’ve come to York, yes they’re a team that haven’t won a game of football and you could sense that, because they didn’t know how to see it out.

“They got a little bit nervy, but I’ve got to give full credit to the players because they’ve come out and it’s tough in these conditions.

“We possibly warranted a win.

“But you’ve got to respect the opposition, Neal Ardley has come in and it’s hard for him to implement anything in the short time he’s been here.

“But when you’ve got the crowd like they are and you go 1-0 up, they’re bouncing and it was a great reaction from us.

“I said to the group at half-time that I genuinely feel like we could get two or three goals, as long as we keep a clean sheet in this half.

“Unfortunately we didn’t, but great character and a great reaction from the group.”
