YORK City have appointed Darren Kelly as the club's new General Manager.

After being spotted attending York's 3-1 defeat to Rochdale on Bank Holiday Monday, Kelly's new role within the club has been confirmed, joining as the General Manager.

Kelly had a previous role with John Askey at Hartlepool United as the club's Sporting Director, playing a key role in the first-team transfer and wider football operations.

He's also no stranger to York, having had a spell as a player between 2007 and 2009, making 36 appearances and scoring two goals from the defence.

Kelly had spells as a footballer in Northern Ireland and Carlisle United, before ending his playing career in the lower end of non-league football at the likes of Stalybridge Celtic, Garforth Town, Frickley Athletic and Scarborough Athletic.

Kelly also has managerial experience with Oldham Athletic, FC Halifax Town, Hyde United, Scarborough, Tadcaster Albion's i2i academy and as caretaker at Newport County, where he was also a Sporting Director.

Speaking to the club website, Kelly said: "I'm excited, I'm looking forward to getting started.

"I've always watched the club from afar because of my connections with the club, but I'm really excited and looking forward to the challenges ahead.

"I'm looking forward to taking the club forward in every way, on the pitch and off of the pitch.

"I'm really excited about the journey ahead."
