YORK City manager Michael Morton has hailed the club’s supporters, and has ensured that there is 'no need for panic' despite the club's winless start.

Despite Lenell John-Lewis’ 93rd minute equaliser, York were fortunate to grasp a 1-1 draw against Aldershot Town last Saturday, leaving Hampshire with one point after a below-par performance that disappointed the travelling supporters.

Morton praised the efforts of the fans, and confirmed that his side were ‘going to really go for it’ over the Bank Holiday weekend, with matches against Dorking Wanderers and Rochdale in quick succession.

The City manager also assured supporters that there was no need to panic just yet, as the Minstermen await their first victory of the Vanarama National League season.

“They always follow in numbers, even when times are good and times are bad, York fans are always behind us.” Morton enthused.

“Last week was frustrating because we didn’t put in the performance we wanted to put in together, but we came away with a point.

“We’re two undefeated, and now we’ve got kick on and get that first win. We’re going to really go for it over the next two games.

“There’s no need to panic right now, it’s a long season, we’re strengthening the squad in certain areas and once we settle we will showcase what we’re about.

“We all know that last week wasn’t good enough, that’s credit to Aldershot for how they started.

“We knew we needed to be on the front foot, but we also knew that if were playing a 4-3-3 in that system and we didn’t get on the front foot, then we would be exposed when the ball was turned over.

“We had to change that to get control, but there’s still people gelling, we’re still trying to work out people’s characters because we’ve had our eyes on all sorts of players when recruiting, but we don’t know what they’re like when thing aren’t going well.”
