MICHAEL MORTON has added his third new face of the day to York City, bringing in hometown goalkeeper Rory Watson.

Watson joins York on a deal until the end-of-the-season after a short spell with Sky Bet League Two side Doncaster Rovers, whom he joined on a one-month contract due to injury issues within the squad.

After being born in York, Watson began his career in the academy of Leeds United after being scouted playing for local York side Bishopthorpe White Rose, before eventually making the switch to Hull City.

After signing a professional deal with Hull in 2014, Watson was in the squad for their Premier League fixture with Liverpool in October 2014.

Watson went on to have loan spells with non-league outfits Gainsborough Trinity and North Ferriby United, before making the switch to Scunthorpe United on a three-and-a-half-year deal, but immediately returning to North Ferriby on loan again.

The shot-stopper went on to make over 100 appearances for Scunthorpe, earning six end-of-the-season accolades, before joining Vanarama National League champions Wrexham last season.

Following Wrexham's promotion to the English Football League, Watson made the move to Doncaster on a short-term deal after a succesful trial, playing against York in pre-season.

Watson is now back with his hometown club, which comes at a surprising time after Ryan Whitley was recalled from his season-long loan with Scarborough Athletic, seeing the new City goalkeeper provide even more cover.

The 27-year-old is the Minstermen's 16th signing of the Summer, and joins Whitley, Maison Campbell and David Stockdale, who is currently recovering from a long-term injury, in battling for the goalkeeping slot.
