YORK City have announced the signing of midfielder Dan Batty on a three-year deal, following his release from Sky Bet League One side Fleetwood Town.

Batty becomes the 14th signing of the Summer for Michael Morton's side after becoming a regular in the Fleetwood side for the past three years, making 87 appearances and scoring five goals.

He was announced to be leaving the Cod Army as part of the club's retained list, and has previously been linked with Sky Bet League Two side Doncaster Rovers before manager Grant McCann confirmed that Batty had signed elsewhere this afternoon.

The former Fleetwood man also struggled with injuries towards the end of his career in Lancashire, missing a heap of last season with an ankle injury.

The 25-year-old began his career at Sky Bet Championship outfit Hull City, breaking through the club's academy to make 64 appearances, including a brief loan spell with Vanarama National League side FC Halifax Town where he scored one goal in his only appearance for the Shaymen.

Batty ended his time with Fleetwood having made 81 appearances at League One level and 58 times in the Championship with Hull, arriving into North Yorkshire with a vast range of higher-league experience.

Batty could act as a direct replacement for former York midfielder Dan Pybus, who departed the club on Tuesday afternoon to join Dorking Wanderers on a three-year contract.

Batty will join Olly Dyson, Quevin Castro, Alex Woodyard, Paddy McLaughlin and Mitch Hancox for the central midfield position.
