YORK City manager Michael Morton is keen to end the Minstermen’s unwanted home record against Altrincham - having not defeated the Robins on home soil since 2010.

Morton’s side are still looking for their first points of the season, after a 2-1 defeat to Wealdstone on the opening day and a 1-0 loss to Kidderminster Harriers last Saturday.

Altrincham on the other hand remain unbeaten after a 3-2 win over Woking and a 1-1 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge, ahead of the two clashing at the LNER Community Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

Morton discussed the Altrincham side, and admitted he was eager to change the poor record against the Robins in recent years.

“[On the record] We need change that, don’t we? They’re a good side, what they’ve been doing there and building in the right direction,” Morton admitted.

“We know what they’re about. They’re a team that like to take possession and dominate games, but also they have a good balance in terms of winning games and getting points on the board, and they’ve had a good start.

“For us it’s about making sure we focus on ourselves and get things right, play with a bit more confidence because I felt the other day we weren’t playing with confidence and everything was a bit slow.

“I think if we get things right, go into it confident, don’t worry about all the stuff with the history, I think we’ll be alright.

“They’re like any other Alty side, they’re a really good footballing side.

“They’re really dynamic, youthful as well, with some good experience. If you speak to anybody that plays against Altrincham you never have an easy game.

“We’re expecting it to be a tough game, but we’ve done some bits today and the players looked on it today, so hopefully we can take that into the game and go have a good go, and hopefully get some points.

Morton also praised Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson, who has helped guide his side from the Northern Premier League to the Vanarama National League.

“He’s brilliant, he’s loyal as well and he’s had the time to do what he wants as well.

“They are a good side, they’ve had a good start as well, but it’s not really about them, it’s about us now.”
