RYAN WHITLEY has departed York City to join Scarborough Athletic on a loan deal until the end-of-the-season.

Whitley is a product of the York academy after making his way through the youth system and establishing himself in the first-team squad, and replaced Ethan Ross towards the back end of last season after Ross suffered two concussions.

The goalkeeper impressed in the latter stages of the season, particularly in the final match of the season against promoted Notts County with an eye-catching display.

Whitley also had a brief loan spell with fellow National League North outfit Boston United last campaign, but failed to make an appearance due to Ross' injury.

His game time this season at the LNER Community Stadium may have looked limited after experienced goalkeeper David Stockdale joined the club.

The shot-stopper originally had a loan spell with Scarborough in the 2021/22 season and impressed in his time there, keeping 20 clean sheets as the Seadogs gained promotion to the Vanarama National League North.
