COPMANTHORPE ended the season on a high by beating Scarborough Ladies 1-0 to lift the City of York Girls’ Football League Under-14s Cup.

The final was a close game between two evenly-matched teams and Copmanthorpe survived an early scare as keeper Emily Ward made an important save within a couple of minutes of the kick off.

As the first half developed, Copmanthorpe went on to play some good passing football.

Poppy Tinker had the ball in the net midway through the half, only to see the effort ruled out for offside.

Copmanthorpe continued to dominate possession and create chances, but they were unable to open the scoring.

The breakthrough came seven minutes from time. After a good build up down the right, Caitlyn Atkin weaved her way though the defence to finish low and hard across the goal to the keeper’s right.

The remaining minutes were breathless as Scarborough pressed for an equaliser, but Copmanthorpe were equal to everything thrown at them.
