Hold your breath! Paul Hanagan and Richard Hughes go into tomorrow’s final meeting of the season with the jockeys’ championship still in the balance.

Malton-based Hanagan, who has been in front in the title race since day one of the campaign when he booted home a four-timer on Town Moor, still holds a slender advantage.

But he’s got today to get out of the way first. And, as for tomorrow, he has a whole host of decent mounts, just as Hughes has, and both jockeys are fancied to ride a winner apiece.

Hanagan’s best chance appears to be aboard Les Fazzani in totesport.com Gillies Fillies’ Stakes.

Trained by Kevin Ryan and a previous course and distance winner, the six-year-old has underfoot conditions to suit and, if she can secure a commanding lead, which she enjoys, she is expected to take plenty of catching.

Hughes can score on Expose in the totesport.com Nursery.

The William Haggas-trained juvenile got off the mark at Wolverhampton last time when winning a maiden in fluent style. A follow up in this handicap would come as no surprise.

In the feature race on the card, the £100,000 totesport.com November Handicap, Hanagan will be aboard Tepmokea, a York winner last month, trained by Richard Fahey, and Hughes will be on Senate, trained by John Gosden, who won this race last year with Charm School.

Both horses should go well, but my vote goes to Alazan, the mount of Cathy Gannon.

Trained by Philip Hobbs, the four-year-old, a Sandown winner two starts ago, might well have made it two from two this season on this course a fortnight ago had he secured a clear run. As it was, he went down narrowly to stable-mate Salden Licht, who is also in tomorrow’s field. Alazan is napped to get his revenge this time off his light weight.

Kieren Fallon can win the totesport.com Wentworth Stakes on Inler.

The Brian Meehan-trained three-year-old scored like a horse at the top of his form on this course a fortnight ago and looks one to follow.

He is up against some battle-hardened older rivals here, but this talented colt has what it takes to lift this Listed race.

Also worth noting at Doncaster are the smart Damien (2.00), a good second to Fathsta at York last month, and the ultra- consistent Divertimenti (4.10), who can win the final race of the campaign – confined to apprentices – for Roy Bowring and Ryan Clark.

Over the jumps the highlight at Kelso promises to be the seasonal debut of Kalahari King in the Mayfield Restaurant Limited Handicap Chase.

Ferdy Murphy’s stable-star, who is set to carry top-weight on a course where he has won in the past, won his first start last season at Doncaster and plainly goes well fresh. He is a fascinating runner in the hands of Graham Lee, who is in tremendous form at present and who rode a terrific treble at Wetherby last Saturday.

Isla Pearl Fisher makes plenty of appeal in the Ship Inn, Dalkeith, Novices’ Handicap Chase, while Kosta Brava is worthy of note in the 3.15.
