YORK Knights have continued to assemble their squad ahead of the 2027 season with the signing of full-back Max Jowitt from Wakefield Trinity.
Jowitt has penned a two year contract with the Knights and will join Mark Applegarth’s side at the beginning of the 2027 season, as he begins the next chapter in his career.
The 29-year-old has spent the last 12 years of his career in the Wakefield first-team, making more than 180 appearances since he debuted in 2014.
He and York head coach Applegarth have history too, with the Knights boss being the Head of Youth at Wakefield when Jowitt broke onto the scene.
Applegarth was also Jowitt’s head coach from 2022 to 2023, with the pair working together in what was ‘Mash’s’ first managerial job.
In Jowitt’s 12 seasons with the Trinity, he has broken the record for the most number of points scored in a single season, managing a remarkable 500 points when Wakefield stormed the Betfred Championship in 2024.
Jowitt has therefore been a part of the Wakefield side that won both the Championship and the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup in 2024, and has also had loan spells at Dewsbury Rams, Oxford and Newcastle Thunder in the earlier stages of his career.
Applegarth was delighted to secure Jowitt for 2027 and beyond, saying: “I’m really glad we've got Max joining us.
“He’s a proven Super League player with nearly 200 games under his belt and he’ll add a different dimension to us in attack.
“He’s one of the best passers of the ball in the league in that second phase of attack.
“He’s a lovely person as well. I’m really looking forward to working with him again. He’s a player I know well and I think he’ll help push us as a team onto that next level.”
Jowitt added on his move: "I’m buzzing for the opportunity to have a fresh start at a club like York, especially with the direction that the club is heading in."
