YORK played host to Yorkshire Women’s and Lancashire Women’s as the Roses derby saw the visitors take the bragging rights.
Lancashire’s teenage sensation Venus Weerappuli set up a six wicket Roses Vitality Blast victory at York Cricket Club, after the group’s two bottom teams locked horns.
Ami Campbell batted first for the White Rose and took two fours and two sixes from Kate Cross’ bowling, taking the score to 74-1 for her best T20 score in professional cricket.
Lancashire fought back and with wickets for Weerappuli and Sophie Morris, Yorkshire quickly lost two players in succession.
That included the end of Campbell’s time on the pitch, before Lauren Winfield-Hill was thwarted by Tara Norris.
Weerappuli then bowled Sterre Kalis for 22 and forced an lbw on Olivia Thomas, whilst Beth Langston contributed 17 runs.
Lancashire’s chase was aided by Australian overseas star Meg Lanning, helping the score to 46-1.
The scores and batting records were almost identical with Lancashire hot on the tails of their hosts, but they pressed on as Jones drilled a Beth Langston bowl for a six, before hitting a half century from 31 balls.
At 96-1 in the 10th over, Jones and Emma Lamb (22) carried the score over to squash Yorkshire’s hopes.
England’s new test wicketkeeper-batter Ellie Threlkeld finished 28 not out as Lancashire walked away with the win in North Yorkshire.
