SELBY Town came away with a valuable point at 7th-placed AFC Thorne Colliery on Saturday with a share of the points in a one all draw.

New manager Stephen Bodle and his assistant Lee Needham were relieved to get their first point on the board, but despite a hard-working second-half by their players, they just failed to get the all important winning goal.

Ethan Harrison put the hosts in front on five minutes and with Selby bombarding the home goal without success in the second-half, it looked like they would go home empty handed until Charlie Petch popped up with an equaliser six minutes from the end.

From the previous week’s line-up Town made changes with Ned Dry, Troy Greening, Dec Racher, and Alex Marsh all came back into the starting 11.

Dan Davison, Jamie Danby, and Liam Love dropped to the bench and both Joe Rawcliff and Liam Flanagan were unavailable.

New signing Szymon Czubik made his first start for the club.

The Robins had a good chance in the first seconds with goalkeeper Ryan Musslewhite getting to the ball just before Dry but they were stunned in the fifth minute when Harrison swept a cross in from the right past Joe Wilton for the opening goal.

Thorne were looking dangerous and Petch was forced to concede a corner. Luke Williams then hit a cross shot that Wilton saved at his near post.

Selby came back and had a good spell with Czubik driving a shot wide and Dry flicking a Racher cross just wide of a post.

Harry Clapham had a shot charged down and the rebound fell to Troy Greening, and his shot was deflected into the arms of Musslewhite.

Clapham had the ball in the net just before the interval but the effort was ruled out for offside.

As the half ended a poor Town clearance saw the ball reach Williams and he shot just over the bar.

The second-half opened with Lleyton Brown seeing a shot easily gathered by Musslewhite but at the other Wilton was quick off his line to save at the feet of Louis Seddons.

Clapham was unlucky when he wriggled free of a defender in the penalty area but his shot across the goal missed the far post by inches.

Minutes later another ball was played across the six-yard area with no Town player there to tap home.

Then Caden McGrath played another ball across but, to the frustration of the Selby management and their supporters, again there was nobody to complete a simple finish.

The Robins got the equaliser that their pressure deserved on 84 minutes when a Racher corner was knocked home by Petch.

The Town defence did well to keep a number of dangerous corners out of their goal as Thorne looked for the winner but it was Selby who came the closest in the last couple of minutes when only three desperate blocks a few yards from goal prevented Love from getting the winner.

SELBY TOWN: Wilton, McGrath, Racher, Marsh, (Love), Petch, Spencer, Greening, (Danby) Brown, Clapham, Dry, (Davison), Czubik.
