YORK City are now guaranteed a top three finish in the National League this season after results went their way last night.
Following Tuesday night’s round of National League fixtures, York now hold a 17 point lead over fourth-placed Oldham Athletic, and with five matches remaining, just 15 points are left available for the season.
York did previously confirm just a place in the play-offs following their 3-0 win over Wealdstone 11 days ago, but are now guaranteed automatic progress into a home semi-final.
Oldham were defeated 2-1 on home soil by Woking, who are now managed by former City boss Neal Ardley, despite the Latics holding an early lead through Kian Harratt.
Goals from Dion Kelly-Evans and Lewis Walker in the second-half saw the three points travel home with the Cardinals, whose safety hopes received a huge boost, now six points clear of Dagenham & Redbridge in the relegation zone.
The result not only means that a top three finish is guaranteed now for the Minstermen, but it also confirms a home semi-final, with the winner of that one-off match reaching Wembley Stadium, and more importantly, the play-off final.
York now hold an eight point lead over third-placed Forest Green Rovers, and remain eight points adrift of leaders Barnet, with five matches left of the National League season.
The home semi-final will take place at the LNER Community Stadium on Tuesday, May 20, if York finish second, or on Wednesday, May 21, should they finish third.
The final itself at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, June 1.
