YORK CITY defender Maxim Kouogun was being rested for York City’s penalty shootout victory over Chelmsford City.
Eyebrows were raised at the weekend with Kouogun being an absentee from David Webb’s squad for the Isuzu FA Trophy fourth round tie with Chelmsford.
Speculation began that Kouogun, who has been an ever-present for York this season and has missed just two of City’s 26 Vanarama National League games, had either picked up an injury or was potentially leaving the club.
There were speculation amongst supporters that something was afoot for Kouogun with the Football League transfer window open, however the York Press can confirm that this isn’t the case.
Manager Webb opted to rest Kouogun, with Sam Sanders and Fraser Kerr being trusted to start, as well as the additional back-up of Adam Crookes after Sanders picked up a knock in the first half.
Supporters may be on edge to keep one of their key men after speculation grew in the Summer that Kouogun was of interest to Sky Bet League One side Bristol Rovers, but former York coach Kingsley James confirmed that the club had ‘not had any approach’ in the Summer.
