YORK CITY manager David Webb has provided an update on any incoming transfers, claiming there are “none imminent” as of right now.

Webb has so far bolstered the squad with the additions of Ollie Tanner from Cardiff City and Shaq Forde from Watford, with both players joining the club on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Tanner is yet to make his debut for City after only joining on Tuesday, but will be involved in the squad in Saturday’s (3pm) clash against Chelmsford City in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

“Ollie is an exciting player and can play anywhere across the front three, or he can play in the number ten.” Webb explained.

“He’s a player I’ve known since he was in the Arsenal academy when he was younger, he’s very direct, he’s very skilful and I think he’s a crowd pleaser in terms of getting fans off of their seats and I think he can give us variety in different situations.

“He’ll be involved in the squad, we can’t give away too much just yet but he’s definitely going to be involved in the squad.”

Webb’s other signing Forde has hit the ground running, firing home four goals in his first two matches and becoming York’s youngest ever player to score a hat-trick.

Despite the early success, Webb isn’t in a rush to improve the squad any further: “There’s none imminent at the minute. But like I said last week if I feel there is quality we can add and it can improve what we’ve got, we won’t just sign players for the sake of signing them, they have to add depth to our group and create more competition for places.

“But again, it’s the right type of signing with the right character and the right playing style.

“We haven’t got a particular area (to improve), with Shaq and Ollie we’ve got more options in attack and we have done.

“In midfield we’ve got quite a lot of midfielders and we’ve got quite a lot in defence as well so we’re pretty much covered in all the areas.

“But it’s just in case we find anyone out there who can add that little bit more quality into those areas but right now there’s nothing imminent.

“The budget is okay. We’ve got some stuff to manoeuvre around but we don’t want to keep adding players into the squad when we’ve already got ones here.

“What we’re looking for is if one can come in that can add quality we will do, but we don’t want to overload the squad. If we only have five subs in National League games and obviously we’ve got quite a big squad already, so we don’t want to leave too many out at one time.

Forde’s hat-trick came against Maidstone United in last weekend’s 4-1 win, clinching City’s first league home win since early October.

However, Webb is keen to turn the LNER Community Stadium into something of a fortress:“We actually spoke about that before the last game against Maidstone actually, because some of the recent results haven’t been great at home.

“I think we can make this our home, in terms of building something special here so when teams do come they come off, hopefully not with a result, but hopefully more importantly they’ve been in the game and don’t want to play us again. So hopefully we can get that sort of feel for around our team.

“It’s the mindset of how you approach the game, and if you go into any game and any cup competition where you’re facing teams below you in the league if you go in thinking this is a full gone conclusion you can come unstuck very quickly.

"Because they will come here trying to get a result, they will come here full of confidence because of their league position obviously having beat teams from our league we will approach them like we would approach a National League team and give them the respect they deserve, but hopefully not give them the result.”
