SWIMMER James Wilby claimed a third 2022 Commonwealth Games medal as part of England's bronze-medal winning 4x100 medley relay team.

Wilby clocked 58.94 seconds alongside team mates Lauren Cox (1:00.81), James Guy (51.19) and Freya Anderson (53.09) as England posted a combined time of 3:44.03.

The host nation, competing at the West Midlands' Sandwell Aquatics Centre, placed below Australia, who set a new Games record (3:41.30), and Canada (3:43.98).

South Africa (3:44.38), Wales (3:47.76), Scotland (3:48.55), Jersey (4:01.10) and Guernsey (4:02.79) missed out medals.

York City Baths Club product Wilby had earned two previous medals in the Games, winning gold in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 200m breaststroke.

Wilby was however unable to pick up a fourth medal in the 50m breaststroke.

Fellow England swimmer Adam Peaty, the three-time Olympic champion, took gold at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre with a time of 26.76 seconds.

Samuel Williamson (26.97), of Australia, and Ross Murray (27.32), from Scotland won silver and bronze medals respectively.

South African Michael Houlie (27.36) and Scot Craig Benson (27.43) finished narrowly in front of Wilby, who clocked 27.72.

Staffordshire's Greg Butler (27.98) and Australia's Grayson Bell (28.31) finished in the bottom two.

Elsewhere at the Games, City of York Athletics Club shot-putter Scott Lincoln is in action on Friday (7pm).

Ripon diver Jack Laugher competes in the 1m springboard tomorrow night (6pm), the synchronised 3m springboard on Friday (11am) and the 3m springboard on Saturday (10am).
