YORK City Knights' trip to Sheffield Eagles on Sunday has been postponed because of numerous positive Covid tests at the host club.

Under Rugby Football League protocols, a team can apply to postpone a match if seven or more senior players are unavailable as a result of coronavirus, either through positive tests or as close contacts.

Sheffield have exceeded this threshold.

The fixture will be added to the list for possible rearrangement. It is not guaranteed to be played, an eventuality which has seen this season adopt placings based on win percentages rather than points.

A Knights statement added: "Everyone at the Knights shares the inevitable disappointment at this fixture being postponed and we were looking forward to your superb away support.

"However, attention will now turn to our next home match against Widnes Vikings (August 8, 3pm) where we will be looking to build on last weekend’s 46-10 victory over Swinton Lions."
