A stationery and gift retailer is withdrawing from the UK after a decade in business.
Typo, owned by Australian group Cotton On, will close all its UK stores and end online trading by early 2027.
The company has blamed persistently high rents, rising operating costs and disappointing sales for the decision to leave the UK market.
A spokesperson for Typo told Chronicle Live: "After careful consideration, we are closing Typo’s operations in the United Kingdom, with all stores and online trading to close by early 2027."
The retailer, which launched in the UK in 2016, has operated stores in major shopping centres including Westfield London, Bluewater, and Meadowhall in Sheffield.
It has already begun winding down its UK presence, with the Eldon Square branch in Newcastle among the latest to close following a clearance sale.
Typo added: "We recognise the impact of this decision on our Typo UK team who are already aware of this, and our priority is to support our people through this transition.
"Cotton On, Cotton On Body and Cotton On Kids will continue to operate through online and wholesale channels in the UK, and we remain confident in their long-term growth."
The closure marks the end of Typo’s efforts to gain a foothold in the UK market, though the brand will continue to operate in other countries.
Stores will close over the coming months, but no specific dates have been confirmed.
The company said the combination of high property and operational costs, alongside weaker sales, had made its UK operations unsustainable.
