A food influencer pitted crisp giants against cheaper supermarket dupes and was stunned by where her favourite brand landed.

Becca Stock, better known as Becca Eats Everything, stocked up on ready salted crisps from Tesco, Lidl, Asda, Morrisons and M&S alongside household names including Walkers, Kettle and Tyrells.

The 29-year-old blind taste tested each one, chomping her way through the crunchy snacks, ranking them based on saltiness, overall flavour and texture.

The content creator, who has amassed 642,000 followers on TikTok, said that while Walkers took the top spot, she was 'quite shocked' by how other big brands tasted.

Walkers, priced at £2.35 for a pack of six, scooped the top spot and a flawless 10/10, with Becca praising their 'buttery' and salty flavour.

Hot on its heels was Lidl's offering priced at 85p for six, with Becca ranking them 8.5/10 and celebrating their 'good crunch' and 'nutty flavour'.

Morrisons The Best 125g bag, priced at £1.25, scored 8/10, Kettle's £2.65 offering scored 7.5/10 and Asda's Just Essentials, costing 85p received 6/10.

But some of the more expensive options ranked considerably worse., according to Becca.

Becca was particularly surprised by Tyrells' performance, a brand she said she normally chooses, branding them 'tasteless' and giving them 3/10.

Becca, from Gloucester, Gloucestershire, said: "I thought crisps is something we are all familiar with and it is a great snack.

"I wanted to do a variation of value, mid-price, and then some premium brands - it was really interesting.

"Even some mid-price brands like Lidl came in second place. I had no preconception of what brand was going to win.

"Lidl's had a good crunch, and had a nutty flavour.

"Walkers was my favourite one. I would never have thought that they'd be the best, you could actually taste the potato.

"It had a good saltiness to it, it was buttery. You don't pick up on that unless you are directly comparing them to other products.

"Tyrells is a brand I would always pick off the shelf and they were one of the worst for me.

"I was quite shocked, I thought it would be in the top three at least."

The Tesco Finest crisps, priced at £1.50, and M&S crisps from a £2.25 multipack both scored just 2/10.

Becca said the Tesco Finest and Tyrells crisps had a bitter taste, while she found the M&S ones particularly disappointing.

Becca said: "The worst were Tyrells and Tesco Finest.

"They had a bit of a bitter taste and it happens when the potato they use releases too much starch.

"They didn't taste of anything, barely any salt, and couldn't taste the potato. Just eating a very bland crisp.

"They [M&S crisps] were not good, they were like plastic."

Becca said the blind test had been a fun way to compare products she would normally judge by their packaging and brand name.

The crisps fan said she is planning more taste tests, this time comparing flavoured snacks.

Becca said: "It was a very fun thing to do. I'm a massive crisps fan, they're so good."
