Selby Town have appointed Gary Paton as manager to the end of the season after Mick Gray tendered his resignation from the Northern Counties East League premier division club.

Gray, right, left the Robins after last week’s 5-1 drubbing at Bridlington.

Then, after having more time to ponder his decision thanks to Saturday’s postponement against Dinnington, he opted to stick with his original thoughts and the committee reluctantly accepted his resignation.

With last night’s home game against Bridlington Town in mind, the committee acted quickly to appoint Paton to end of the season.

The club thanked Gray “for all his efforts in bringing together a good team of lads, and wish him every success for the future”.

It is not known whether Gray’s assistant, John Steeples, will remain with the Robins.
