Osbaldwick bowler David Thompson has been banned from playing by the Hunters The Estate Agent York and District Senior Cricket League for the rest of the season.

His skipper, Steve Young, has also been suspended for six weeks and fined £50 for showing dissent and abuse to an umpire and failing in his duties as captain.

Thompson was also fined £50 for dissent, foul language and aggressive behaviour towards an umpire.

The disciplinary decisions stem from two separate incidents in a premier division match against Thirsk last month involving umpire Ian Reynolds.

League managing secretary Albert Pattison said that the Osbaldwick club were required to hold their own hearing into the incidents, but hadn't so the League took over the case.

The Osbaldwick club were fined £100, plus costs, for failing to exercise proper control over their players and failure to comply with the League's disciplinary procedure and the England and Wales County Cricket Board code the 'Spirit of Cricket', which has been adopted by the league.

Malton and Old Malton batsman Darren Wyrill has been banned from July 19 to August 1 and fined £20 after admitting dissent and foul language towards an umpire.

His team-mate, Greg Johnson, was fined £20 and given a two-week suspended ban for admitting dissent towards an umpire.

Both incidents were in a first division game against Wilberfoss in May.

The Malton club did hold their own hearing but the league felt the penalties imposed were outside their guidelines, so took the matter up themselves.

Malton and Old Malton were warned as to their future conduct and charged costs. However, no penalty was imposed because of the club's prompt action following the incidents.

A penalty handed to a further Malton player is the subject of an appeal.

Pattison said: "The number of incidents involving abuse of umpires in the league is very small, but it is something we cannot tolerate."

Dunnington 2nd XI have been deducted 24 points for including regular first teamer Paul Miles in their home game against Londesbrough Park.

"It was a technical breach rather than a deliberate one," said Pattison.

Dunnington's first team game at Sessay had been washed out and some of their players went to watch the second team in action at Common Road. The seconds were a man short and wicketkeeper Miles was asked to make the numbers up and he agreed to help out.

The points deduction is a huge blow to Dunnington's hopes of avoiding relegation from division four.

They were 20 points adrift at the bottom from nearest club Thorp Arch and Boston Spa before the points deduction came in to force.

Londesborough Park will have their points allocation increased by 19.

Heslington have withdrawn their second XI from the league following the cancellation of their last two second XI games due to lack of players. The division six table will be revised accordingly after today's matches.
