VIOLENCE flared at a North Yorkshire seaside town early today when an attack on a pregnant woman sparked a fight between rival gangs of bikers and locals.

Police said the pregnant woman phoned to complain she had been kicked in the stomach by one of the gang members.

When officers attended the station shortly after midnight today, they found about 30 bikers and eight locals fighting at Whitby railway station.

One man had been headbutted and had suffered a broken nose, but he refused medical treatment.

Whitby police had to call in reinforcements from Filey and Scarborough to help calm the situation.

An armed response vehicle was called in as extra back-up, though police said no weapons were used in the fighting.

Two men were arrested at the scene, one for assault and one for breach of the peace.

They were later released without charge after everyone involved in the fight declined to make a complaint to police.
