York Against Cancer has been named the nominated charity for the 2027 York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge.
The event will take place on Sunday, July 11, 2027, on the River Ouse and will mark the 25th anniversary of the popular fundraiser.
It will also coincide with York Against Cancer’s 40th year.
Andy Knowles, CEO of York Against Cancer, said: “We at York Against Cancer are genuinely honoured to have been selected as a charity partner for the 2027 York Dragon Boat Races.
"Next year marks our own 40th anniversary.
"Forty years of funding cancer research right here in York at the Jack Birch Unit.
"Forty years running services that make a real, practical difference to those affected by Cancer, including our mobile chemotherapy unit that brings treatment closer to home, our minibus that transports patients to Leeds for care, and the Leveson Centre providing support and respite for people going through the hardest times of their lives.
"Dragon boat racing is everything we love about York.
"It's community.
"It's determination.
"It creates smiles, laughter, and togetherness.
"Any money raised for us will not disappear into the distance, it stays here in York, funding vital local services."
The York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge features 36 teams of 16 people each racing throughout the day, with a final held in the afternoon.
It has raised more than £1.8 million for local charities since it began in 2003.
York Against Cancer will receive one-sixth of the total funds raised by participating teams.
The charity plans to use the funds to help purchase a new minibus, which will transport patients to radiotherapy appointments at the Bexley Wing of St James’s Hospital in Leeds.
York Against Cancer will also enter a team into the race.
Mr Knowles added: "We cannot wait for July 2027.
"See you all on the water."
The Dragon Boat Challenge is a popular event, drawing support from residents and visitors alike, and helping to raise vital funds for good causes across the region.
