A chef with more than 45 years of experience has taken on a new role.
Andrew Lees has been named head chef at the bistro of Rangeford Villages’ Mickle Hill, a retirement village in Pickering for people aged over 60.
Mr Lees brings decades of experience in the catering and culinary industry, most recently serving as a catering manager in York.
He said: "This is a very exciting new chapter for me, I’m already loving it.
"From the moment I started, I could already tell how collaborative I was going to be with owners, which is really important.
"Their happiness is my priority, so it’s been great to find out what they like, what they want, and generally take their feedback on board."
This marks Mr Lees’ first role in the retirement sector, and he said he is enjoying the creative opportunities available to him.
He said: "The Bistro at Mickle Hill is vital for many of our owners.
"It’s a key part of their routine and really does break up the day, particularly for those who aren’t in a position to go out much.
"Not only is their time at the Bistro about having good, nutritious food, it’s about socialising and the companionship that comes with it."
He also emphasised his commitment to using locally sourced ingredients and traditional dishes.
Mr Lees said: "I’m passionate about sourcing local ingredients and we’re in a lucky position to be surrounded by so many wonderful options.
"Since I’ve started at Mickle Hill, traditional homemade dishes, such as steak and kidney puddings, have been very popular.
"The owners enjoy all the seasonal vegetables that we use."
Gillian Green, village manager at Mickle Hill, said Mr Lees has already made a strong impression.
Ms Green said: "We’re delighted to have Andrew as part of the team.
"Our Bistro is important to so many of our owners, so it’s essential that we have a creative Head Chef.
"Our recent 10-year celebration was one of Andrew’s first days working here and the food was just delightful.
"We’ve had so much positive feedback already and he has developed great relationships with the owners, we’re thrilled."
