A SCENIC route through North Yorkshire has been named Europe’s top hidden road trip.
The North Yorkshire Moors route, which runs from York to Whitby, has topped a list of lesser-known European journeys ideal for autumn travel, according to new research by Kia.
Ranked above routes in Italy, Spain, Slovakia, and Romania, the UK route was praised for its natural beauty, convenience, and amenities.
A Kia spokesperson said: "This hidden gem dominates the landscape of Northern England and ranks the highest on our list.
"This is in part due to its beautiful scenic surroundings, number of amenities per mile (5.56), and average driving distance per hour of 34.21 miles."
The drive passes through the historic city of York, the village of Goathland, and ends in the coastal town of Whitby.
Goathland is known for its appearance in the first Harry Potter film as Hogsmeade Station.
The spokesperson added: "Why not take some time to explore the station and watch the Hogwarts Express come in as a break in your journey?"
Whitby, famous for its gothic heritage, is home to Whitby Abbey, the 199 steps, and connections to Dracula.
Kia’s ranking considered factors such as scenic value, average temperatures, amenities, and fuel costs.
The route is also well-suited for electric vehicle drivers, with plenty of charging points along the way.
Despite cooler temperatures in autumn, the journey was praised for offering a balance of natural beauty and modern convenience.
The spokesperson said: "This iconic route offers a rich cultural heritage that’s often overlooked by tourists in favour of travelling across Europe in the colder months."
Travelers are encouraged to discover the "hidden gems" of the UK through this lesser-known route.
