A free afternoon of live music will close the York Jazz Festival with a community celebration.

The festival, which brings together national and local jazz performers at venues across York, has become a regular fixture in the city's cultural calendar, attracting audiences from across the region.

The finale will take place in the shoppers’ car park on Bishopthorpe Road, known as Bishy Road, on Sunday, October 4, from 12pm to 7.30pm.

The Fergus Quill Sextet, Dennis Rollins and other artists will perform, while businesses in the area serve food and drink.

Beppe Lombardo of the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association said: "We want people to be able to wander down to Bishy Road, hear some fantastic live jazz, grab something to eat or drink and just enjoy the afternoon.

"Making the finale free means everyone can be part of it."

The Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association is organising the event with York Jazz Festival, funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.

It follows four Bishy Road Bazaars and the summer Street Party held on the road this year.

The jazz finale will once again turn the car park into a space for residents and visitors.

This is the final major event planned for Bishy Road this year.
