A York MP will take residents’ experiences to the independent commission after hosting a public discussion on social care.
Luke Charters, MP for York Outer, will pass residents’, carers’ and social care workers’ views to Baroness Casey, who leads the independent commission.
Mr Charters said: "I was really grateful to everyone who came along, and particularly to those who spoke so openly about their own experiences.
"Some of what we heard was incredibly personal.
"We heard from people who rely on social care themselves, people caring for loved ones and people who work in the sector every day."
The meeting on Wednesday, September 16, included contributions from Sara Storey, corporate director of adult social care and integration at City of York Council, and University of York researcher Dr Lyndsay Lindley.
Mr Charters said: "People were really honest about where the gaps are and where they think things need to change.
"Social care affects so many families across York Outer.
"We have a real opportunity to get this right, and the people who actually use and provide care need to be at the heart of it."
