A FAST food giant has revealed the date it will open its first restaurant in York - with free food for a year for the first three customers.
Popeyes is coming to the city and will throw open its doors on Friday, October 2, at 4/5 Church Street.
To mark the occasion, Popeyes is giving away free chicken sandwiches and more to mark the occasion.
The first three people in the queue will win free chicken sandwiches for a year, while the first 100 will receive a free chicken sandwich on opening day.
The first 50 customers will also get exclusive Popeyes UK merchandise.
The new restaurant has created 70 jobs and will offer both dine-in and takeaway services.
Tom Crowley, CEO of Popeyes UK, said: "We're incredibly excited to be opening our first restaurant in York and can't wait to welcome the local community through our doors.
"York is a fantastic city with a rich history and vibrant food scene, and we're looking forward to sharing our famous Louisiana hospitality, bold flavours and unmistakable Popeyes crunch with residents and visitors alike."
The opening is expected to draw large crowds, with the chain advising fried chicken fans to arrive early to avoid missing out on giveaways.
Customers will be able to order through self-service kiosks or collect orders placed online via the Popeyes UK website or app.
The menu features the brand’s signature chicken, marinated for 12 hours in Louisiana seasoning and hand-breaded for its signature "shatter crunch."
Popular items include the classic chicken sandwich, hot wings, tenders, and signature chicken wraps.
Popeyes is known for its lively launch days, which have attracted queues from the early hours at openings across the UK.
The York restaurant will be open from 11am on launch day, giving fans the chance to try the chain’s famous New Orleans flavours for the first time in the city.
