YORK's two major higher education institutions have been ranked in both regional and national tables of a university guide now in its 33rd year.
The Times and Sunday Times published its Good University Guide 2027 today (Friday, September 18).
The newsbrands said: "The list is based on an analysis of student satisfaction with teaching quality and their student experience, entry standards, research quality, sustainability, and graduate prospects.
"Since 2018 the guide also includes social inclusion rankings for universities in England and Wales, with a separate table for Scottish rankings.
"The tables are based on key measures to reflect the diversity of their intake and subsequent success when attending university."
Imperial College London has been named The Times and The Sunday Times University of the Year 2027, University of the Year for Graduate Employment 2027 and Medical School of the Year 2027.
In the newspapers' main academic rankings, it has risen three places from sixth to third this year, overtaking the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford for the first time.
Imperial is also named Highly commended Russell Group University of the Year 2027 and Runner-up London University of the Year 2027.
The University of St Andrews is the number one university in the UK in the main rankings and has been awarded Scottish University of the Year 2027 and Runner-up University of the Year for Teaching Quality 2027.
The University of York was third in the newspapers' North and North East rankings, behind Durham University and the University of Sheffield, and equal 18th in the national rankings category won by the University of St Andrews.
York St John University was 14th in the regional rankings and equal 107th nationally, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027.

"But, for this next generation of students and the higher education sector at large, this is a challenging time with institutions struggling with their own finances, and the toughest graduate jobs market in more than a decade.
"There are hard questions to ask: can I afford it? What will I get from a degree? Is it worth it?
For only the second time in the guide’s 33-year history, neither Cambridge nor Oxford placed in the top three, ranking fourth and fifth respectively.
